The rules
The four Meowdoku rules
No numbers, no arithmetic, no luck. When a Meowdoku board stalls, walk these four checks in order and the next move is usually right there.
One cat per colour
Every coloured region of a Meowdoku board holds exactly one cat. Start with the smallest region — it leaves the fewest legal cells.
One per row and column
Each Meowdoku row and column takes exactly one cat. Once a cat sits in a line, every other cell of that line is out.
Cats never touch
In Meowdoku two cats may not share an edge or a corner. One cat eliminates all eight cells around it.
Logic, not guessing
Every Meowdoku level has a single solution reachable by elimination alone. If you want to guess, a constraint is still unused.
Meowdoku FAQ
The questions players ask most about Meowdoku, answered in one line each.
What is Meowdoku?
A free logic puzzle played on a coloured grid. You place cats so that every row, every column and every coloured region holds exactly one — and no two cats touch. It is often called cat Sudoku, though there are no numbers involved.
Do I ever need to guess?
No. Every board is solvable by logic alone, one forced move at a time. If you feel stuck, re-check the four rules in order — a constraint has been missed rather than the board being unfair.
Can two cats touch diagonally?
No. Cats may not sit next to each other or at the corners. A single cat rules out all eight cells around it, diagonals included.
How many levels are there?
350, running from 4×4 warm-ups to 11×11 boards. They are grouped by size, and the archive on this page shows every solution so you can check your reasoning.
Is it really free?
Yes. The whole level bank runs in your browser with no account, no download and no paywall. Progress is stored on your own device.
Does it work on a phone?
The board is built for touch first: large cells, no hover-only controls, and the layout collapses to a single column on narrow screens.
Can I play Meowdoku online?
Yes — the board on this page is the whole game. All 350 levels run in the browser with nothing to install and no account, on phone, tablet or desktop. The official app adds daily puzzles, hearts and offline play.
